William Brian Mortimer

Born in 1876 in Newcastle upon Tyne he served in the South Africa War (1900-01) with the Ceylon Mounted Infantry. Later he joined the 4th Battalion DLI and fought in the Great War with the 2nd Battalion DLI. He was killed in action on 13 June 1915 whilst observing the result of artillery fire near Ypres. He was 39 years of age. William Mortimer is buried in Potijze Burial Ground Cemetery .
