Joseph James Tait

Born in Durham City, he served as a Private with the 10th (Service) Battalion DLI during the First World War. He was killed in action during the Battle of the Somme near Flers on 16 September 1916, when his battalion lost over 380 men killed, wounded or missing during a failed British advance. He was 21 years old.
Joseph Tait has no known grave but his name is recorded on the Thiepval Memorial, which commemorates over 73,000 British soldiers who died on the Somme and who have no known grave.
