Biography

Born in Ryhope he was living at Horden Colliery when he enlisted at Seaham in the 10th (Service) Battalion. In February 1918, when this battalion was disbanded, he was transferred to the 8th Battalion DLI and was killed in action, aged 23, in the Battle of the River Lys on 11 April 1918.

Cuthbert Watson has no known grave but his name is recorded on the Ploegsteert Memorial, which commemorates more that 11,000 men who died in this sector during the Great War and have no known grave.
