Charles Nichol

Biography

Born in West Hartlepool, Charles Nichol was living in Scotswood, Newcastle upon Tyne, when he originally enlisted in the Tyneside Scottish. He later transferred to the 13th (Service) Battalion DLI and was awarded the Military Medal for his bravery at Le Sars during the Battle of the Somme in October 1916. Charles Nichol died of wounds on 7th October 1918, and was buried in Doingt Communal Cemetery Extension in France. He was 20 years old.
