Awarded Military Medal (London Gazette 28 January 1918) as 24464 Lance Corporal, 14th (Service) Battalion DLI.

"Your Commanding Officer and Brigade Commander have informed me that you distinguished yourself on 19th October 1917 during a hostile raid. You showed great gallantry and devotion to duty in getting in touch with the front line and returning through an exceptionally heavy barrage with a report. It is certainly due to your courage and devotion that valuable information was obtained at a critical time. I have read their report with much pleasure. Signed Major General T O Marden, Commanding 6th Division, 25 October 1917."

Awarded Bar to Military Medal (London Gazette 13th March 1918) as 24464 Lance Corporal, 14th (Service) Battalion DLI.

"Your gallant conduct in the Field on the 3rd December 1917 in carrying messages through heavy shell fire, and later, manning the Lewis gun, has been reported to me, and I have had much pleasure in reading the record of your gallantry. Signed Brigadier General 18th Infantry Brigade, 22nd December 1917"

and

"Your Commanding Officer and Brigade Commander have informed me that you distinguished yourself on 3rd December 1917, at Masnieres, by your gallantry in carrying an urgent message across the open to Battalion HQ through a heavy barrage. I have read their report with much pleasure. Major General T O Marden, Commanding 6th Division, 7th January 1918."
