27 Jul 1916 "For conspicuous gallantry when in charge of a party working in front of our parapet. The enemy opened machine-gun fire and wounded a sergeant. Lt Thompson-Hopper withdrew his party, and then went out alone and carried in the sergeant under heavy fire aided by flares."
