Citation: "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. At a critical time he collected together a number of men of various units, and under heavy fire led them to high ground, where he held up the enemy's advance. His initiative and prompt action undoubtedly helped to save an amount of transport and material which would otherwise have been lost."
