No citation but "For Bravery in the Field. The 2nd Battalion DLI were out with the RAZMAK Column. Considerable Mahsud lashkars had assembled and were burning Khassadar posts and damaging roads and telegraphs south of Razmak. There were two clashes with tribesmen. In both cases the Battalion was taking part in a reconnoitering operation from Tauda China Camp (near Makin in the direction of Ladha. In the first, on 12th July, a picquet of "A" Company No 4 Platoon, under Corporal Brooks, was strongly opposed in difficult wooded country when it came under fire from tribesmen hidden on a hill. The picquet successfully rushed its objective, but then came under persistent fire losing one man killed and several wounded. Though after some time the picquet was reinforced from the Battalion, it was not until a Battalion (4/12th Frontier Force Regiment) carried out an attack on the neighbouring hills, that the situation was cleared up".

Mentioned in Despatches (London Gazette 16.12.1943) as WO2 (Acting RSM), 2nd Battalion DLI.
