Citation

Awarded the Military Medal (London Gazette 21 October 1918) as 24794 Private, 13th (Service) Battalion DLI.

"For conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty during the enemy attack on the 15th June 1918. This man worked unceasingly all day repairing the lines between Battalion Headquaters and the front line with complete disregard for personal safety. It was owing to his untiring efforts that the communications were successfully maintained throughout the day."

Bar to Military Medal (London Gazette 20 August 1919) as 24794 Corporal, 13th (Service) Battalion DLI.

"For conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty during the operations of 23-30th October 1918, between Le Faux and Tilleuls Farm. This NCO, during very heavy shell fire, repaired the telephone wires on several occasions, so keeping the Battalion in communication with the Battalions on the left and right, and also with Brigade."

Awarded the Belgian Croix de Guerre (London Gazette 12 July 1918) as 24794 Private, 13th (Service) Battalion DLI.

"For conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty during the operations near Dumbarton Lakes, East of Ypres on 20-22nd. September 1917. This man has acted as linesman to the Battalion for two years. Again and again he has worked under intense fire especially during these operations, when on his own initiative he went out and repaired lines repeatedly. This man has previously been recommended for the award of the Military Medal."
