"Lieutenant Farr, 2nd Battalion DLI, was captured at St Venant, France, on 27 May 1940. While at OFLAG V B (Biberach) in August 1941, he and another officer attempted to escape hiding in the rubbish cart but where given away be the civilians whom they had bribed to hide them. At OFLAG VI B (Warburg) in April 1942, he and four others escaped by crawling through the wire whilst the attention of the sentries was diverted by those in the camp. He got as far as Meschede by goods train before being caught by a policeman while walking away from the train. Back at OFLAG VI B, Lieutenant Farr took part in digging a tunnel from October 1942 until February 1943 but it fell in before it was completed. his next attempt was made from OFLAG VII B (Eichstatt) by tunnel in June 1943 with two others. they walked south towards Switzerland and managed to cross the Danube by a stolen boat before being fired at by a policeman and rounded up by the entire population of a nearly village. Lieutenant Farr who was finally liberated from OFLAG IV C (Colditz) in April 1945 has been praised By General Fortune for his efforts to escape while a Prisoner of War."
