Military Cross (London Gazette 24.9.1942) as Lieutenant & Quartermaster with 9th Battalion DLI.
For service in North Africa - "Recommended for personal bravery and complete disregard for his own safety. On 27 June while the Battalion was engaging the enemy south of Matruh, the 3" mortars in the position ran out of ammunition. Lieutenant Love though under heavy MG, mortar and artillery fire proceeded in his PU to the ammunition lorry which was also under fire and loaded ammunition into it. While doing so he received a head wound but carried on and brought the ammunition back to the mortars, which were then able to resume their fire onto the enemy. He then successfully organised the evacuation of the wounded despite the intensity of the enemy fire".
