Alfred Beckwith

Citation for Distinguished Conduct Medal. 3520 Lance Corporal A Beckwith, 1/8th Battalion DLI. London Gazette 30 March 1916. "For conspicuous gallantry and ability. When many NCO's had become casualties, and he was the only one left, he handled the men with great coolness and assisted in extricating the wounded under heavy shell and machine gun fire from the enemy, whose trenches were only 70 yards distant. On other occasions he has shown great zeal and courage". DCM presented by General Sir H Plumer on 23rd May 1916 at Divisional parade at Fletre.
