Biography

Born in County Durham, he joined the Durham Militia in June 1810, before volunteering for the 68 Regiment in May 1811. He fought at the battle of Salamanca on 22 July 1812, but returned home to the 68 Regiment's Depot in December 1812 - possibly because of ill health. He was promoted to Corporal in May 1817. Anthony Lyall was discharged from the 68 Regiment in March 1818.
