Biography

Born in 1878 on Tyneside, he served as a Private with the 9th (Territorial) Battalion DLI throughout the First World War. He was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal in 1916 - "When another regiment was retiring under heavy fire and had to leave a wounded man behind, Private Laskey volunteered to go out under fire and endeavour to save the man. He reached him, dressed his wounds, and carried him in safely." He was also awarded the Military Medal in 1916.

William Laskey died at Dunston in 1958, aged 80.
