Biography

Born in 1918, he was a trainee architect in London before he was called up in 1939. In August 1940, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and joined the 9th Battalion DLI, taking command of "A" Company in Sicily in 1943 after the Battle of Primosole Bridge.

Landing on D-Day on 6 June 1944, Captain Lowe was badly wounded in his left shoulder during the attack at Lingevres on 14 June 1944 and took no further part in the war.

In civilian life, he worked first in Kenya as a shipping agent and later with BOAC at home. Bill Lowe died in January 1998.
