Joseph Atkinson

Born in New Brancepeth, he enlisted at Durham in the 8th Battalion DLI. He was killed in action on 5 November 1916, during the attack on the Butte de Warlencourt - one of the last actions during the Battle of the Somme. Joseph Atkinson, who was 28 years old when he died, is buried in the Warlencourt British Cemetery.
