Biography

Born in Byker in 1886, his home was in Wallsend when he enlisted, as a Regular soldier, in the 2nd Battalion DLI. He was killed in action, aged 29, on 9 August 1915 during 2 DLI's attack at Hooge, near Ypres. In this battle, the Durhams suffered over 400 casualties, including 100 men killed. Most, like Isaac Houston, have no known grave but their names are recorded on the Menin Gate Memorial at Ypres.
