Painting, 68 Light Infantry

This watercolour was painted by Sergeant William Pickles about 1840 and sent home to his sister in England. The 68th Light Infantry sailed to Jamaica in 1838. Service in the West Indies was hard and in just three years the Regiment lost 100 men to disease. In 1841 the 68th Light Infantry left the West Indies for Canada and did not return to England until 1844. Acc No: 1620
