Mauser Model 1896 Rifle
Mauser Model 1896 Rifle. Cal. 7mm. Serial no. 5410. (B 65699 stamped into cocking handle and B 5410 / 10 under the barrel). Rear sight marked with odd numbers from "5" to "19". Used in Boer War and was an excellent military weapon. Sweden adopted the rifle in 1896; most were cut short and lightened in 1940. They remained in service until the 1950s. Its right-angled cocking-piece projection made the model distinctive. Germany later adopted the GEW98 Mauser after a long series of experiments. Acc. No. 1381.
