Helmet, 2 Durham Rifles
Officer's Full Dress Helmet, 2nd Durham Rifle Volunteers, 1880-87. This helmet is made from cork with a cloth cover. The fittings are in white metal and the helmet plate is mounted on a red cloth background. This helmet belonged to Morley Headlam, who commanded the 2nd Durham Rifle Volunteers at Bishop Auckland from 1880-85. He had fist joined the Rifle Volunteers in Barnard Castle in 1860. In 1887 this unit became the 2nd Volunteer Battalion DLI. Acc No: 358
