Biography

He enlisted as a Private in 3 Rifle Brigade in 1881 and transferred to 2 DLI in January 1882. He served at Gibraltar and in Egypt and was promoted to the rank of Corporal in January 1886. In late 1886, he returned to England and joined 1 DLI at Colchester. In May 1887, he was reduced to the rank of Private at his own request. He was still serving with 1 DLI in 1888, when the muster rolls end.
