Biography

Born in Ireland, he was a labourer before he enlisted in the 68 Regiment in 1810, as a Boy soldier. He served in the Peninsular War, as a Private, and was blinded in his left eye by a bullet at the battle of Vittoria on 21 June 1813. He was discharged in November 1814 and was admitted to pension at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham in Ireland. James Lee, aged 22 years, was given a pension of 18 pence per day.
