Biography

Born in Dublin, he was a footman before he enlisted in August 1914, aged 19 years. He served with the Royal Berkshire Regiment and 20 DLI during WW1. He was Colonel North's servant (CO of 20 DLI) and in June 1917 was awarded the Military Medal fir his bravery at Messines near Ypres, when he was badly wounded and lost both his legs. After the Great War, James Harris worked for Colonel North.
