Biography

Little is as yet known about this soldier who served with the 1st Battalion DLI on the island of Borneo in 1966, as records of recently serving soldiers are not available.

Borneo - the last campaign fought by the Regiment after 200 years - was against invading forces from Indonesia but the mountains and jungles of the island of Borneo were a more unpleasant enemy. In February 1966 Private Thomas Griffiths was killed - the last Durham to be killed in action - and Major John Arnot was awarded the Military Cross - the last gallantry award to a soldier of The Durham Light Infantry
